Candy Wrappers

What Should I Do With It?

Traditional candy wrappers cannot be recycled and must go into the regular garbage. Because they are so small, these thin pieces of plastic are nearly impossible to sort, causing them to stick to other recyclables and contaminate the batch. Furthermore, candy wrappers are frequently manufactured using mixed materials, such as a blend of plastic and aluminum or paper and foil. Since commercial recycling plants are unable to separate these layered materials to reuse them, they ultimately belong in the trash. As a good rule of thumb, if your wrapper feels like crinkly plastic or has a shiny, metallic inside, it should always go into your household garbage.

💡 Helpful Tip

Before throwing this away, see if it can be fixed up, given to a friend, or donated to a local thrift shop. Keeping items in use is the best way to stop waste before it starts!
