Plastic Wrap
What Should I Do With It?
Plastic cling wrap, commonly used for sealing food and wrapping grocery items, is not accepted in standard curbside recycling or retail bag drop-off programs. Because of the complex chemical additives used to make cling wrap stretch and stick, it cannot be processed like other plastic films and must be thrown in the regular trash. To reduce your household waste, you can transition to reusable glass containers, silicone lids, or washable beeswax wraps for food storage. When shopping at the grocery store, asking the deli counter to wrap your items in butcher paper is another highly effective way to avoid single-use plastic wrap entirely.
Before throwing this away, see if it can be fixed up, given to a friend, or donated to a local thrift shop. Keeping items in use is the best way to stop waste before it starts!
